You can think of your thyroid gland as your body's thermostat. Thyroid problems can affect your mood, appetite, gut, weight or skin - amongst many other things.
An under-active thyroid slows everything down. You feel tired, cold, put on weight, have dry skin and struggle with constipation. An over-active thyroid makes you lose weight, feel hot and jittery and can give you diarrhoea.
Problems with the thyroid gland are common, particularly if you’re a woman, or if you have a history of autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes or coeliac disease. Our Thyroid Blood Test checks the two main thyroid hormones, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4), which are all we need to say if you have an under- or over-active thyroid gland.

WHAT'S MEASURED?
This blood test looks in detail at the function of the thyroid gland and screens for markers of autoimmune diseases which can affect the thyroid. Once you have the results of this panel, you can be very confident about whether any symptoms relate to problems with your thyroid gland.
