You can think of your thyroid gland as your body's thermostat. Thyroid problems can affect your mood, appetite, gut, weight or skin - amongst many other things.

An under-active thyroid slows everything down. You feel tired, cold, put on weight, have dry skin and struggle with constipation. An over-active thyroid makes you lose weight, feel hot and jittery and can give you diarrhoea.

Problems with the thyroid gland are common, particularly if you’re a woman, or if you have a history of autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes or coeliac disease. Thyroid problems can develop at any age so it's important to check it every now and then, particularly if you have symptoms such as:

  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Increased or decreased appetite
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Heavy or irregular periods
  • Changes in mood like irritability or depression
  • Dry skin and / or hair

Our Thyroid Blood Test checks the two main thyroid hormones, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4), which are all we need to say if you have an under- or over-active thyroid gland.

What's tested in your Thyroid Blood Test?

  • Thyroid Health

Thyroid problems are common but we can test for them easily by measuring the levels of the two key thyroid hormones - thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4)
