How do I take a blood sample with Tasso

Published

Need to know how to take a blood test with your EasyDraw (Tasso+) device? You’ve come to the right place.

The EasyDraw (Tasso) device is a quick, painless way to collect a blood sample from your upper arm — no finger-pricks, no squeezing, and no mess. It’s designed for comfort and ease, drawing your sample gently using a light vacuum. Here’s our step-by-step guide to help you get the best results.

Read the instructions first

Even if you’ve done a capillary blood test before, it’s really important to read the instructions that come with your kit. The process for using EasyDraw is different from a finger-prick test and following the steps in the leaflet will make sure your sample is collected correctly.

When should you do your test?

We recommend doing your test Monday to Thursday, ideally in the morning so you can get it in the post the same day. This gives your sample time to reach the lab while it’s still fresh. Avoid taking your sample on Fridays, weekends, or Bank Holidays.

The whole process takes around 30 minutes, so make sure you have enough time to complete your test and post it the same day.

Prepare yourself

Some blood tests have special requirements like fasting or making sure you have gluten in your diet. You'll find all this information in your online account.

Before you start your blood collection:

  • Activate your kit at selph.co.uk/activate — this step is essential so the lab can process your sample.
  • Drink two glasses of water — being hydrated helps your blood flow more easily.
  • Keep your arm warm, ideally by using the provided heat pack.
  • Write your details on the label provided, but don’t stick it onto the tube yet.

Stay hydrated before taking your EasyDraw test

Prepare your space

Set up your kit on a clean, flat surface with everything laid out in front of you — device, tube, alcohol wipe, heat pack, plaster and return box.

Make sure you’re comfortable and your upper arm is uncovered. If you have hair on your arm, you may find it easier to use the device if you shave a small patch first.

Warm up your arm

Good circulation is key to getting a full sample. Activate the heat pack included in your kit and rub it gently up and down your upper arm for around 2 minutes. If the pack doesn’t warm up, you can rub your arm with your hand instead. Your skin should feel comfortably warm before applying the device.

How to use the EasyDraw device

  • Attach the sample tube – Twist off the lid and press the tube firmly into the device. Make sure the fill lines are facing outwards. If you have more than one tube, collect the purple tube last.
  • Clean your skin – Use the alcohol wipe to clean your upper arm and let it dry.
  • Apply the device – Peel off the sticky backing and press the device firmly to your upper arm. Let your arm hang relaxed by your side.
  • Start the collection – Remove the clear plastic cover from the red button, then press the button once. You’ll feel a light click as the collection starts.
  • Wait while it fills – The device draws blood gently into the tube. You can keep your arm relaxed for up to 10 minutes while it fills to the line. It’s normal if blood doesn’t appear for the first minute or two.
  • Remove the device – Once the tube is full (or after 10 minutes), gently peel the device away from your arm. Replace the lid on the tube and invert it 5–10 times to mix the sample.
  • Apply the plaster – Use gentle pressure for a few seconds to stop any bleeding.

That’s it — you’ve collected your sample.

If you’re collecting more than one sample tube

Some tests require more than one sample tube. Don’t worry — you only need to use one EasyDraw device.

Here’s how to do it:

  • After collecting your first sample, carefully remove the filled tube and insert the next empty tube into the device while it’s still in place on your arm.
  • Press the red button again to restart the collection. The device won’t puncture your skin a second time — it simply continues drawing blood from the same spot.
  • Watch as the second tube fills to the line (or for up to 10 minutes).
  • Once finished, remove the device, replace the lids on both tubes, and invert each tube 5–10 times to mix.

If your kit includes a purple-capped tube, always collect that one last.

Label and pack your sample

Stick your label onto the sample tube and place it into the transport pouch. Seal it firmly, then put it into the return box along with your completed request form and any used lancets (if included). Seal the box with the security sticker and post it back the same day using the prepaid label.

You can dispose of the used EasyDraw device and heat pack safely in your household bin.
