Do I need to fast before taking my test?

Last updated

In general, you don’t need to fast before completing our tests. Most of our health checks are designed to be taken at any time of day, with no need to fast.

However, there are a couple of exceptions where fasting or dietary consideration can help improve the accuracy of your results:

  • If your test includes a lipid profile, it’s best to be fast for at least 8-10 hours before taking your sample. Ideally, take the test in the morning before breakfast. Fasting helps give a clearer picture of your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

  • If your test includes testing for creatinine try to avoid eating meat for at least 12 hours before you take your sample.
